*sigh* Yeah. I just don't have the money for a flight to and a hotel in Calgary. Thanks, shitty US economy and weak dollar! Seriously, it's the plane fair that is sticking in my craw right now.

Anyway, I got the membership early so it's $125 USD, $25 less than the current going rate. Let me know here or via email if you would like it. I'd prefer payment via paypal, but a check or money order works, too.

Bleh. Next year, Jo. Next year. You can go to San Diego in 2009.

I have enabled a new personal filter called: antiDoctor

This filter is everything in my subscription list except
I realize the 4th series has completed in UK. I realize that most of my Stateside friends have downloaded it and watched it.

The family is watching it on Fridays as it airs on the Sci-Fi channel. (You can't get captioning on YouTube or less-than-legal downloads)

So, please do me the honour of not spilling the beans to me until the show has run its course on Sci-Fi.

Actually, it's been made clear to me that I must truly suffer. The finale runs on Friday August 1. I will be out of town that weekend and will not be able to see the episode until I return late on the 4th.

So, if you see me that weekend... Don't ask. I'll be stewing in my own Gallifreyan blood.

Thank you for your understanding.

Subject:Well Done, Lads and Lasses.
Time:11:08 pm.
Mood: relaxed.
I am dreadfully behind on the things I want to post about, and I'm dreadfully tired from being a pirate and drooling at ships for the past four days.

But thanks are in order, and I shall not let this one thing pass.

From the Captain's desk:

To the many brave lasses and the couple of very VERY brave lads who stood up to sing our Alma Mater this Independence Day, congratulations!

The Jolly Roger gives a nine gun salute to you all, and we doff our ridiculous, feathered caps to you! Yesterday's finale at the Tricky Pixie concert on the Treasure Cove stage was all we dreamed it would be and more, thanks to your raised voices and your courage.

If you were wondering, the answer is no, we did not in fact plan for one blue-eyed incarnation of Capt. Sparrow to emcee our performance yesterday. Nor did we plan for the Lady Washington to sail right past us during the performance of 'Red-handed Jill'....but we're certainly pleased that her bonny crew decided to make their way back into the docks at just that moment!  It's a good life, it is, and full of thrills and beauty.

Well done, renegades. I think it's safe to say that we made a fine impression (at least as fine as any public debut Jacky Faber could claim), and that the festival staff and the audience will remember us!  You have every right to stand and be proud of your lovely selves.  It's not every day a crew such as ours stands tall and sings loud--may it not be the last!
History has been made!

By the way, I had a nice chat today with Tiger Lee, creator of the Molly Roger.  We traded stories and stickers, and he asked me to email him our story, for possible future consideration in Pirate Magazine.  Says Wendy, "we shall see."
I might get all the trademarking stuff done first, though, before I contact him again.
He is a pirate, after all...

So, apparently HIGH impact workouts are what I'm doing right now.

Last week: A Advanced Modern Dance Class that I utterly Threw myself at and got INCREDIBLY sore from.

This Week: A 9 hour Lifeguard training, most of which was in a pool and included 500 yards as a warmup!

But it paid off; I am a Certified Lifeguard and CPR Lifesaver!!!
W00t! Check that off the life list of things to do.

Now to take a nice, hot shower.

Aiee. Loooong weekend: toolin' down to Cobleskill for girl-child's post-surgery orthopedic visit, followed by an extended SCA event in Warrensburg. A wonderful, wonderful time all around, but one that has left me sunburned, sore and very, very tired.

Full reports to follow, once rational thought has returned. In the meantime, seeing as how I haven't so much as touched LJ since Wednesday, my hopes of getting caught up are exactly nil, so if there's anything important or anything you wanted me to know about that happened while I was away, reply here and let me know. Yet LJ is dead today, as usual on Sundays, except for the beating of breasts in regards to the Who finale, which really made me wonder if Davies sees any point to women's continued existence on this planet at all. Ugh.

I should probably be diverted from that, too, before steam comes out of my ears.

So.

A lot of folks have been talking about the death of Jesse Helms.

Sorry kids, Bill Hicks had the last word on Jesse almost 20 years ago.

"But you know they're going to find the skins of young children drying in his attic, swarms of horseflies going in and out of the eaves, and on CNN over and over, his wife going, "I always wondered about Jesse's collection of little shoes." Anyone that far to the right is hiding a deep, dark secret."

Time:12:47 pm.
Mood: happy.
[cross-posted to [info]filkhaven, [info]shadowriderhope, [info]stilyagiaircorp and [info]penguicon]

The Third "Acorn Music and Verse" housefilk will be held this Saturday, July 12 from 1:00 pm into the evening at the Great Oak Cohousing Common House, 500 Little Lake Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48103. (Please park at the side of Little Lake Drive, and not in the parking lot - there is very limited parking available for residents).

This is the direct descendant of the "Fen and Filk" house sings at Glimmerglass house, and they are always a good time. Let me know ASAP if you need crashspace, so I can make sure there is space is available!

It's a fun, inviting get-together where you will always get a turn to sing, recite a poem, or ...? (and you can pass if you want), and new people are welcome and encouraged. :) You can show up any time during the event, and leave at any time. Our schedule is to arrive at 1:00, get singing by 2:00, break for pizza around 5:00, and then sing till usually 8:00-ish. Often there is a musical jam that continues well after the 'end' of the event, so feel free to stick around if you're interested!

It's a friendy, non-judgemental place to start singing, playing, or reciting in front of people, and a fine spot to test out your new songs. We welcome instrumental musicians and spoken word performance as well. There is a kid-friendly play room next to the dining hall where we play, and kid-friendly play equipment outside if the weather is nice.

Hosted by [info]shadowriderhope and [info]nubianamy.
Supported by [info]qnvhrtz & [info]peteralway.

Come prepared to participate - song or word....... ! Bring friends....

Bring a snack, a dish to share, etc.....what food & drink we have is whatever we bring. There is most likely going to be a pizza order.

We hope to arrange a group call to Tom Smith [info]filkertom to wish him well and sing him a song, as he can't be there with us physically - he's recuperating in a rehab facility after a badly torn quad at a Christine Lavin concert.

There's a great Tom Smith Fundraiser album that's being put together by Rob Balder and DJ Particle and many others - I encourage you to check it out and help out this fine master filker and friend. :)

*happy sigh*

So its been a nice laid back generally productive weekend. We keep interspersing laziness with productivity such that we're getting down time and getting things done. Its nice. And the place is starting to look emptier and the disarray is growing to an extent. But we're doing really well packing it down.

Keys come Monday. We'll get a lot of the smaller bulk stuff moved this next week, and then we'll be prepped for the big stuff in two weeks.

:-) Its a good weekend.

Adam's off at a gaming day, and I'm... hangin' out. Hi. How's by you? **twiddles thumbs** **whistles tunelessly**

Medical
Doubling my dose of Toprol did the trick; no more cardiac issues. And no appreciable increase in side effects.

Otherwise, it's been a decent week, healthwise. So decent that I tried to get extra exercise yesterday and, um, no. So I'm very ouchy today.

I described this thusly to my mom: "Imagine you're on a tightrope. No, wait - imagine that tightrope on the ground. Lying in the mud, so you can barely feel it. And you have to walk that tightrope, on your tiptoes. The ground on either side is variable and untrustworthy. In some areas, you can jump off and dance a jig. Some are quicksand. And you have no way of telling which is which. So there's no way you can even be careful. You're always just one step away from a flare, and you never know which step that's going to be."

So that's me, on my tiptoes, trying to dance anyway. In any case, other than the muscle strain from yesterday's exercise, I'm fine.

Story
Story is marinating, gestating. Three at once, actually. Triplets!

Blogathon!
Artifacts are arriving! Got awesome stuff from [info]ultra_lilac, [info]aaronace, [info]pharminatrix, and [info]shrijani this week. I'm going to have lots of fun writing these stories...

I am really fortunate to have such gifted and generous friends and readers. We raised over $3,000 last year with just a few auctions and, of course, the writing. Will this be the year we break $5K? I really hope so. Going through the training for BARCC really brought home what amazing work they do - not just helping people in crisis, but working toward prevention. Much to say about that. Probably Monday. Anyway, if you make stuff, do consider being part of this. It's going to kick ass. :)

And yes, I will be making at least one artifact myself...

Pants are bankrupt
So tell me what's been going on in your world.

Elayna
Last night was her first sleepover night. Between last night's movie night, tonight's dance, and tomorrow and Sunday's trips, I'm spending four days without seeing her. I know, she usually goes to Florida for the summer; I should be more accustomed to being without her! But it's weird having her just half an hour away, and I want to hug her, I want to listen to her talk about all the cool stuff she's doing. *sigh* I miss my girl. But she's having a great time.

Daily Science
As MESSENGER flew past the night side of Mercury in January, its Fast Imaging Plasma Spectrometer (FIPS) scooped up ions from an atmosphere so tenuous that it's usually called an "exosphere." FIPS measured the expected amounts of ions like sodium, potassium, and calcium that had previously been detected in Mercury's exosphere, but to the science team's great surprise there was also water present, and in large amounts. "Nobody expected that. I don't know a single person that did. We were astonished, just astonished," said MESSENGER science team member Thomas Zurbuchen.
